Finding fish from the bank

Main Post:

Hey guys, I’m a relatively new fisherman and one thing I still haven’t really figured out is what to look for when trying to find fish. I’m a bank fisherman (i.e. no fish finder etc) and I was wondering if there is any specific structures that I should really focus on. I know there isn’t really a correct answer to this and it’s all temperature and weather dependent. What are some basic rules I should follow when looking for fish? The lake I fish has one dock, a dam, and lots of marshy areas surrounding the creek that feeds it. Thanks for any advice.

Top Comment: Look for downed trees, tires, canals and drainage ways. Lookup depth maps for your bodies of water. Ask the local old guys, they don't sit out there every day just not catch anything. The dock is definitely a good spot. Structure is key as that's how predators hunt and how prey hides. Fishing from the bank is a whole different beast. so much so people buy boats to avoid some of the struggles, But there's many many pros to having feet on land in this hobby as well

Tip: Putting your quest fish in a piggy bank lets you catch another. Stack them up to save having to keep revisiting fishing holes each day. : Terraria

While equipped, the Fish Sack Barrel does not have an "Empty" option like the normal barrel does. You currently have to remove it off your back in order to bank the fish. Can we make it usable from the equipment screen?

Top Comment: If anyone can tolerate gathering 1000 molch pearls and a barrel I think it should just automatically deposit when you bank your invy

What does everyone do with fish guts at the lake?

Main Post:

As the title says, if I was to clean the fish at the lake, what should I do with the guts? Is it legal to toss them in the lake? Or should I be bringing them back home with me and toss them in the garbage? Question might be dumb, but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything from the fishing regulations. Thanks everyone.

Top Comment: Misinformation central over here. Many lakes with a legal catch limit will have a cleaning station at the public boat launch / camp ground etc. You can absolutely clean your fish here and discard guts in the container provided. If no such station is nearby then cleaning and throwing the guts back into the lake is perfectly acceptable. Try to throw them out of sight and away from human traffic areas. Don’t be a dingus and throw them out where you’re fishing because yes, this could be construed as chumming. At the end of the day you’re returning nutrients back to the ecosystem, this is a responsible practice and contributes to the circle of life in a lake. Certainly better than putting it in a landfill!
